How To Make South African Chicken Stew


Here is a short video of a very easy South African Chicken Stew Dish

10 chicken drumsticks
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp paprika
2 whole garlic cloves
1 medium onion, chopped
5 medium tomatoes, chopped
4 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 large carrot, chopped
1/4 green pepper
1 tsp plain flour + 45 ml water, mixed to make a paste

Step 1 – Wash your chicken until clean and place it into a pot. You can use any kind of chicken you prefer

Step 2 – Add the onions, curry powder, salt, paprika, tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato sauce and the garlic cloves and any other seasoning you prefer in one go, keeping with the idea of the recipe being an “all-at-once” recipe.

Step 3 – Add one cup of water or chicken stock. Put the heat on medium low and close the pot

Step 4 – Once it has started to boil make sure the heat is not too much but just enough for simmering. Boil until fully cooked. Depending on your heat, it should take approximately 45 minutes

Step 5 – when it is almost done, add the flour paste, carrots and green pepper and let it simmer for a further 5 minutes. Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly.
