Even before Mick Fanning punched a shark Jeffresy Bay has long been famous for surfing and is a must do for any South Africa surf trip.
The long, reeling right handers of SuperTubes in JBay draw surfers from all over the world and it’s a much anticipated stop on the world surf tour.
But Jeffreys Bay surf spots are plentiful, so there’s no need to hustle against the very localised crew when SuperTubes is pumping!
I spent 2 weeks at Island Vibes backpackers in Jeffreys Bay with perfect waves right on the doorstep. Phantoms is one of my new favourite waves in the world – running endless down the point with a super fun face that will bring a serious smile to both longboarders and shortboarders – with rides easily over 200m long!
Kitchen Windows on the other hand is just a 2 minute stroll along the sand and offers up a much puncher A frame setup and is pretty consistent too, making it a great staple of any Jeffreys Bay surf trip.
And of course on your way to or from Jeffreys Bay you have to hit up the Bloukrans Bungy jump – the highest bridge bungy in the world at 216m!
I’m terrified of heights so you have no excuse not to take the plunge!
Next stop…the famous Cinsta!
