My Black Is: A Celebration of Cultural Excellence

This Black History Month, Certified and BET are celebrating the moments and the music that have made us proud, made us dance, made us feel, and made us cheer. Through the lens of Power, History, Culture, and Love, we’ll explore the sights and sounds of blackness in our terms. Because after all, “it’s the culture for me.”

We honor the record breakers like Michael Jackson, whose achievements as an artist include having the best selling album of all time, Thriller, record for the most Grammys won in a night, and being the first artist to have 5 consecutive #1 songs from his Bad album.

And are in awe of musical standards like Mariah Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time with more than 200 million albums sold to date and 19 Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles (18 self-penned), more than any solo artist in history.

We celebrate Billie Holiday’s vocal stylings that influenced some of the world’s biggest musicians including Frank Sinatra. Her best-selling single “Strange Fruit” became a protest anthem for the mistreatment of blacks in America.

We honor the blueprint, Whitney Houston, whose voice defined an era.

We tip our hats off to young innovators like Jalaiah Harmon who set the internet ablaze with her contagious choreography.

And cheer on young pioneers like DJ Amorphous who’s skills have garnered the attention of music’s biggest stars

We commemorate the achievements of John Legend as the youngest and first black male to ever reach EGOT status.

And we swell with pride for the First Black Female Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.

This black history month, it’s the possibilities for me…
